Timeline for Freshmen

Beginning with your SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL

  • Early notification admission application deadline.  Your application and all materials must be submitted online, e-mailed, or postmarked by this date.  Be aware of private scholarship deadlines.
  • Admission deadline to apply for freshman admission if you want to be considered for CofC merit-based scholarships, your application and all materials must be submitted online, e-mailed or postmarked by this date. Grades, test scores or other talents determine eligibility for merit-based scholarships. 
  • Prepare federal tax returns (submission to the IRS is not required before the FAFSA is completed).
  • Apply for a federal PIN for you and each of your parents (
  • Complete the FAFSA (
    • Once FAFSA sends you an acknowledgement email that your FAFSA was successfully processed, please double check and compare the following information on your FAFSA versus your information on your Student MyCharleston Account:
      • SSN
      • Date of Birth
      • First Name
      • Last Name
    • If any of the aforementioned does not match on both systems it will prevent CofC from loading your FAFSA information and processing your financial aid application. 
  • Review your student aid report (SAR) and make corrections online.
  • Freshmen are notified of federal awards through MyCharleston. You will need to accept or decline each award not already marked as accepted, then press the submit button at the bottom of the page. Compare total cost minus financial aid at the schools where you were accepted. 
  • Deadline to accept admission to College of Charleston and pay deposit. Your deposit confirms acceptance of the scholarship award.
  • Complete additional forms for student and parent loans.
  • Notify the college of any outside scholarships received.
  • Review your CofC EBill Account via MyCharleston to determine amount due. 
  • If applicable, establish direct deposit for financial aid refunds in CofC EBill Account.
