Chapter 1607 Applicant

Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)

You may qualify for these benefits if you:

  • Are a Reservist or National Guard member
  • Served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001, for at least 90 consecutive days.

Documentation required for Chapter 1607

Please submit completed forms or document copies to the OFAVA,  based on the description that best fits your circumstances.

If you have never applied for benefits, submit:

  1. Application for VA Benefits (22-1990) online at the VA VONAPP website.
  2. Print the signature page and write "Application for Chapter 1607" at the top of the form. Send this page to the Southern Region office in Decatur, GA
  3. Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) to the OFAVA on campus.
  4. VA Certification Request once you have registered for classes.
  5. Verify your enrollment each month on the WAVE.

If you have had a one-year break in attendance at the College of Charleston, or if you used your benefit at another institution, submit:

  1. Paper Change of Program or Place of Training (22-1995) with "Application for Chapter 1607" notated at the top of the form to the OFAVA.
  2. Discharge from Active Duty (DD214) to the OFAVA.
  3. VA Certification Request once you have registered for classes.
  4. Verify your enrollment each month on the WAVE.

If you received your Chapter 1607 benefits at the University within the last year, submit:

  1. VA Certification Request once you have registered for classes.
  2. Verify your enrollment each month on the WAVE.

Benefit Guidelines

  • You will receive a stipend for personal use each month for 36 months as long as you are a full-time student. Benefit rates for part-time enrollment are reduced proportionately. Visit the GI Bill Rate Table for complete information on current rates..
  • Some reservists may contribute an additional $600 to the REAP program to receive an increased monthly benefit. Contact your unit to see if you are eligible.
  • A member will remain eligible for the REAP benefit as long as they continue to serve in the Selected or Ready Reserve.
