South Carolina Palmetto Fellows Scholarship

The South Carolina Palmetto Fellows Scholarship is $6700 for a student's first year, and $7500 for the second, third, and fourth years.

The SC Palmetto Fellows Scholarships is an academic merit-based scholarship program awarded by the SC Commission on Higher Education.

Freshmen Eligibility

High school seniors that have EITHER a 3.5 GPA, are in the upper 6% of their class, and scored 1200 on the SAT or 25 on the ACT, OR a 4.0 GPA, regardless of class rank, and scored 1400 on the SAT or 31 on the ACT, should contact their guidance counselor for nomination information. Only students that have been nominated and awarded through the Commission on Higher Education will receive Palmetto Fellows Scholarships.

To be awarded Palmetto Fellows at the College of Charleston, freshmen must submit the required Scholarship Designation Form to the SC Commission on Higher Education (CHE).  Upon notification of the conditional Palmetto Fellows Scholarship award by CHE, students are provided Scholarship Designation Forms to complete and return to CHE. Students must designate the institution they plan to attend. Students must return the Scholarship Designation Form to CHE by the established date or forfeit the Scholarship.

Students who have not returned the Designation Form to CHE cannot be awarded Palmetto Fellows.  If LIFE Scholarship is awarded and a Designation Form is processed by CHE, LIFE will be cancelled and Palmetto Fellows will be awarded.  Students may not receive LIFE and Palmetto Fellows in the same academic year.

Continuing Student Eligibility

In order to retain the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, you must:
  • Earn and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
  • Earn and maintain a minimum of 30 credit hours during the academic year (fall, spring, and all summer terms). The 30 hours cannot include AP or High School Concurrent Courses.

Students must read the Terms and Conditions and accept the award via MyPortal.

Palmetto Fellows recipients that are transferring from another institution to the College of Charleston need to complete a transfer form with CHE.

Palmetto Fellows recipients must be first degree seeking undergraduates. Recipients that are eligible to graduate are considered to have completed the first undergraduate degree.

Students must be enrolled full time.  State scholarship recipients that are in their final term of enrollment (their term of graduation) may be eligible for a prorated amount of their scholarship based on the number of credit hours enrolled in for that term, if less than full time. Proration will be based on 12 credit hours.

A continuing student that has lost eligibility, or was not previously eligible, cannot regain eligibility.

All state scholarship eligibility appeals are done through SC Commission of Higher Education . Information can be found on their appeal website.

Additional Information

A student must not have any felony convictions. Second drug or alcohol convictions result in the loss of only one year of eligibility. Certain rehabilitation programs may result in regaining eligibility.
